The award has been presented annually to the member of the Catawba Sail and Power Squadron receiving the most National Ocean Survey points for Nautical reporting.  In 2016 NOAA discontinued accepting USPS nautical reports and will no longer award points for this program. The United States Power Squadrons has not yet announced an official program to replace this award although they encouraged squadrons to continue the practice of periodically inspecting American waterways and reporting any discrepancies to the United States Coast Guard or the appropriate state agency.  Recognizing the importance of this activity, the America's Boating Club of the Catawba has decided to continue to recognize the member who has made the greatest contribution to the squadrons efforts in cooperative charting during the watch year with this award.  The first award under this new criteria was presented at the 2017 Change of Watch.
