CATAWBA SAIL AND POWER SQUADRON

On Saturday, 20 September 2014 the Catawba Sail and Power Squadron celebrated its Fiftieth Anniversary at Bellevue, the lake side home of members Billy and Pam Morrell.  A committe made up of the Past Commanders led by chairman P/C Matt England, P organized the event attended by thirty-two members and their spouses and eight guests from District 27 and the Charlotte Power Squadron.  Leading the District delegation was D/C Burt Pearson, SN.  Joining Burt from the district leadership team was his wife Margaret, P/D/C Harold O'Briant, JN, P/D/C Bob Howd, JN  and his wife P/C Sandy Howd, AP, D/Lt/C Paula Stewart, AP, P/C David Stewart, AP.  Representing the Charlotte Power Squadron was Cdr Pat Hakanson.

Ten of the eleven living Past Commander members were in attendance including P/C Monk Case, SN, P/C Barbara Murphy, AP, P/C Joe Murphy, AP, P/C Will Jordan, AP, P/C Jim VanBlarcom, AP, P/C Jack Stevenson, AP, P/C Gene Stutz, SN, P/C Matt England, P, P/C Diane Woods, S, P/C David Kaylor, S, P/C Gary McWhirter, S.

The program included games on the lawn, a photo show of memories of the past fifty years, a display of squadron history and a short program recognizing Past Commanders, Twenty-five Year Members, Life Members, Fifty Year Members including a special recognition for our departed members especially P/C H. Worth Parker, AP who passed away just over one week before the celebration.  Two new members were sworn in by D/C Pearson and the squadron retired its original burgee replacing it with the new gold-bordered burgee signifing the fifty year history of the squadron.
